Menu Bar

The Menu Bar is normally displayed at the top of the program window as a docked menu. You can move it to another location by grabbing its handle (the raised ridge on its left side) and dragging it to a new position. When the Menu Bar is in this floating mode, you can place it anywhere on the screen-within or outside the program window. Clicking an item on the Menu Bar opens a drop-down menu of commands. Clicking a menu command either carries out the command or opens a submenu or dialog box with additional choices. An arrow symbol next to a command signifies a submenu; an ellipsis (...) signifies a dialog box.

Context-Specific Commands

Workflow Manager's menus are context-specific, so they show commands appropriate for the current view. For example, if you're working in the My Work folder, the New command opens a dialog box for creating a new work request; if you're working in the My Designs folder, the New command opens a dialog box for creating a new design. When a menu command appears dimmed, it is unavailable in the current context: it is either an invalid action or you do not have the authority to perform the action.

Some menu commands turn a feature off and on. A check mark next to the menu command indicates that the setting is currently active.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Many menu commands can be executed with keyboard shortcuts instead of a mouse or other pointing device. To use a keyboard shortcut, hold down the Alt key while pressing the command's shortcut key, indicated by the underlined letter of the menu name. To execute a series of keyboard shortcuts (such as F + O + W to create a new work request), hold down the Alt key while pressing the first key, then release it for the remaining shortcut keys in the sequence.

Shortcut Menus

In addition to the pull-down menus on the Menu Bar, Workflow Manager speeds up your work by providing shortcut menus, which give you quick access to common commands for a particular context. Shortcut menus are activated by clicking the right mouse button when the mouse pointer is positioned over an item in a list or in a particular area of the screen. Clicking a command on a shortcut menu will apply the action to the currently selected list item or the part of the screen where the pointer is resting.

Shortcut menus will support custom menu commands for both Workflow Manager and Design Assistant contexts. Information about custom menu configuration is found in the separate Administrator's Guide.
